AVIATION AND CLIMATE ISSUES
Aviation carries its responsibility for its impact on the climate. The industry works hard to decrease the amount of emissions caused by air traffic. Aircraft and engine manufacturers are constantly developing ways to reduce fuel consumption and thus emissions. Airlines, such as Finnair, are renewing their fleet, developing their flight operations and in cooperation with aviation authorities, planning more direct routes and efficient approach methods.
The share of EU air traffic in global carbon dioxide emissions is 0.5 per cent (Eurostat). On a global scale, air transport's share of global CO2 emissions is two per cent and is expected to grow to three per cent by 2050 (IPCC).
By following the links below you will find more information on how aviation affects climate and how the whole industry is working to minimise its effects on the climate.
